What is “sharking”?
Sharking is when someone/a group of people try to trick a user into accepting a trade, usually done to make someone accept a bad trade.
How it works
•On marketplace subforum
Most sharking happens here, usually because more gullible traders reside there. When someone sends a bad trade that’s a win for them to another person, they will either do two things, which are:
1.) Use alts to say “accept” and usually add things on, like “you’re giving items with low demand and the item you get could raise”.
2.) Have friends reply saying “accept” and things similar to the alt tactic. Sharking this way usually works since people will trust users who are somewhat wealthy and trusted in the trading community.
•On Discord
While this approach is harder then the marketplace subforum, it’s still possible. The second marketplace subforum sharking method is always used on Discord, since alts would be extremely obvious.
Sharking Prevention
If you see sharking in action, contact the victim of the sharks telling them that they are being sharked. If they are convinced that they aren’t sharks, provide evidence. Possible evidence could be thread links showing the same few users/alts sharking or the same few users sharking on Discord. If all goes well, you saved your friend.
That’s all! Hopefully this helps.
