Give Life Back to Music.

Really simple wording, but a powerful message. I personally think this can be interpreted two ways.

The first, and most obvious meaning, is a message to the mainstream music industry. They're stating the simple message that many modern songs don't have soul, or life in them. They might be seen as repetitive, meaningless, and far too manufactured. It's kind of funny, Daft Punk, known for their robotic sound and personas, are giving advice to the music industry. Two robots, have more soul and funk to them than some popular artists. This meaning could also be a reference to an older song of theirs, with similar lyrics, "Human, After All".

While this is a solid message, and a wake-up call for some people, this meaning could be muddied by people taking it too far, saying that modern music has no soul, at all. Which is, of course, pure hyperbole. There are plenty of modern artists that have deep, meaningful, funky, soulful music, after all.

Or, it could be misinterpreted, that every song you listen to, has to have a deep meaning. If that were the real message, Daft Punk would be caught being hypocritical, as some of the music on their albums, and even the same album that "Give Life Back to Music" comes from, has songs that simply tell you to dance, and enjoy yourself.

That's not the message at all, though. That's not the meaning of 'life', in music. Having life, or soul, in music isn't about lyrical meaning, but the thought process behind it. Can you feel the work the artist put in? Do you empathize with the song? The fun or enjoyment they had making it? That, is the LIFE in music. Being able to dance to the song, and/or being told to simply enjoy the beat, isn't shallow at all. If you're able to smile, laugh, dance, or otherwise be able to connect to the song, that's deep in itself.

Funny thing is, that exact thing is actually talked about in another song on the album, called Doing it Right.

But I think there's another layer to this song that not many people think about.

The second meaning, and my personal favorite, is a call to the listener, to be able to feel yourself in the song. Are you feeling the music, are you letting it inside you tonight? It's a call, not just to simply listen to your music, but to understand, and appreciate the artistry, thus, giving life to it, perhaps, part of your life.

Sometimes, simplicity is bliss, and Daft Punk has mastered the art of making you think beyond the simple words, and to truly think about what they're saying. They don't have to say much, to convey a message.
