Many forum boards all across the internet host a wide array of emojis and fonts to help “forumers” communicate better. The Brick Hill forums are no stranger to this.
This guide was created with the full intent to educate the reader on how to write in markdown and use the brick hill emojis provided
markdown
Markdown is one of the most widely used markup languages. Many sites use the language due to its simplicity. Brick Hill’s forum boards are no exception to this. If you already know of the language, then you can skip to the part about the emoticons. For those who don’t, well I’ve written a guide to help you:
bold text- you put two asterisks before and after the line(s) you want bold
italic text - slightly slanted forward text. you put one asterisk before and after the line(s) you want italicized
strikethrough text - it’s used to cross out text. You write it by putting two tildes before and after the line(s) you want crossed out
For those who don’t know, it’s on the tilde key on your keyboard. For mobile users, go to the apostrophe key (‘) and hold it down and select the accent
You can also combine these fonts to create a mutated one. For instance, bold and italic. This can be written by putting 3 asterisks (two for bold and one for italics).
There’s a hierarchy for these to know the order in which to put the syntaxes (sort of like PEMDAS/BODMAS). Just remember this order;
For the first half, bold goes first, italics go second, strikethrough, and then code. A good acronym for this is BISC
For the second half, it’s the opposite, so it’d go code, strikethrough, italics, and then bold. Or remember it as CSIB
e.g:
this is created by using two asterisks and then two tildes
emojis
Now that you’ve got the basics of markdown, it’s time to move onto emojis. You’re probably familiar with the Apple/Microsoft/chrome emoticons but Brick hill has their own set too.
This is how they’re written:
(Please remove the spaces to make the faces work)
Smiley face, - written : )
Sad face, - written : (
Right wink face, - written ; )
Left wink face, - written ;; )
Crying face, - written ; (
Tongue, - written : P

Angry face, - written >: (
Sunglasses, B) - spotty, and rarely works. Written B )

- probably one of the least known, the font is used to separate text from lines of code. It’s written by putting a `(known more commonly as a grave accent) before and after the line of “code.”For those who don’t know, it’s on the tilde key on your keyboard. For mobile users, go to the apostrophe key (‘) and hold it down and select the accent
