Türkiye, officially the Republic of Türkiye, and previously Turkey, is a nation situated in both Europe and Asia, mainly lying on the Anatolian Peninsula (Asia Minor) with a bit lying in the Balkan Peninsula, around Thrace.
Türkiye is secular, democratic and capitalist with a Muslim majority followed by a Christian, Atheist and Satanist minority. Türkiye has a population of about 85 million and is a member of NATO and EU candidate.
Türkiye is founded by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who is notable for his contributions in the Gallipoli Campaign and The Turkish War of Independence. He is respected by Turks for establishing the modern Turkish state via the Treaty of Lausanne following the fall of the Ottoman Empire and annexation of Turkey as a result of the Treaty of Sevres signed in WW1 by followers of the Ottoman Sultan at the time.
Türkiye has a rising GDP of over 800 billion but has been in an economic crisis the past decade, with record-high inflation rates and record-losses in the value of the nations official currency - the Turkish Lira. In response, the Turkish government has increased monthly salaries to record highs. Salary sufficiency is debated.
The current president of Türkiye is Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who is also the chairman of the AKP (Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi, or, Justice and Development Party). R.T.E. previously served as the prime minister of Türkiye from 2003 to 2014. On the 14th of this month, there will be an election for the presidency of Türkiye as well as an election to vote for which parties should have seats in parliament. Turkish citizens are able to vote abroad in several countries, voting abroad has already begun.
