While the tragic disappearance of Pop Smoke, who was murdered in his home on February 19th, had triggered a series of tributes from many actors of the American hip-hop scene, today it is the family of the New York rapper who wanted to deliver a message to his fans. And while the police are still looking for a witness and the investigation is not making much progress, Pop Smoke's family and friends are calling for respect.

"We express our sincerest gratitude to all for your support. Every prayer or act of kindness is deeply appreciated as we grieve for our son, brother and friend. Brooklyn knew him as Bashar. He was raised and nurtured in Brooklyn and his rise began in the neighborhood he proudly represented. Last year, his extraordinary talent was revealed to the world, making him Pop Smoke. Unfortunately there are no details released to the public regarding the murder of our beloved Pop Smoke. We ask that you show respect and act with caution at this critical time. Thank you for respecting our family and Bashar's legacy during this time. Spreading false information only adds unnecessary grief to a family already in mourning," says the message left by Pop Smoke's loved ones.

So far, no arrests have been made by the LAPD, which is leaning towards the theory of a targeted assassination and not a simple robbery that TMZ believes went wrong.
