New heights had been reached, a goal long fought to achieve had been achieved. This towering cliff rose above all other ground, the old temple was once more visited by some curious soul, some brave adventurer whose spirit was merely a minuscule spark, a flickering flame that would drive its host onward. Although this ember was a small one on the time scales of all that ever has been and ever will be, it was strong enough at that point in time to bring the traveler it inhabited to unbelievable elevations of virtue. The career of this individual was full of vibrant stories of all kinds, but the happening of those events has since long passed. The end of the tale of this man had come, and the thread of life would be cut without resistance.
Lying beneath the great hornbeam that had stood at that same spot on Earth for so long, the old warrior knew that his final moments had arrived. Removing his helm, he looked out over the hills and valleys that stood before the jagged cliff face, and he stared at the sea beyond. A magnificent sunset was setting above the horizon, and it would soon fade into the ocean.
The sky began getting dark, and as the bright burning ball of heat disappeared, many more began to reveal themselves. The explorer gazed up into the cosmic expanse above him, wondering what was really up there. He, of course, would never get there, but it didn’t hurt to dream. After all, he had followed his dreams throughout his life. He had hope because of them, and hope was what had brought him so far. It may not have been the best life he could have lived, but it was a good one, and a damn good one at that.
As a dark mist passed over both of his eyes, he accepted his fate. Life would go on without him, but it would by no means be the same. The great things he accomplished were still eternal, and the the stars he laid his eyes upon would have his story told throughout them in the distant future for ages to come.
