I have no idea if there is already a building guide - without being the Workshop's guide -, but this might help a few users that just started using the Workshop.

This thread covers:
•Basic controls
•Layout: where is each gui and what they do

•Basic controls
WASD for moving camera's postion
right click for turning camera
scroll or O/I for zoom
scroll click for resetting zoom
left click for spawning a ghost brick
backspace for deleting ghost brick
enter for creating brick
8/4/6/2 ON NUMBER PAD for moving ghost brick horizontally (too bad if you dont have one)
up/down for moving ghost brick vertically
ctrl+Z for undo
ctrl+C for erasing world YOU CAN'T UNDO THIS. I RECOMMEND SAVING YOUR FILE BEFORE USING THIS SHORTCUT.
R and T for rotating and tilting
ctrl+P for simulating physichs LAG WARNING

•Layout:

Red-position,green-brick dimensions,blue-brick color,yellow-baseplate dimension,orange-ambient

OBS.: I recommend clicking the picture to see it on fullscreen.
OBS.2: pls do not laugh at my activate windows watermark ok

-Postion:
Tells the camera's/player's - when on test mode - position.

-Brick dimensions:
You can edit the ghost brick's dimensions by changing the values.

-Brick color:
You can edit the ghost brick's color by choosing any color from the palette.

-Baseplate dimensions:
You can edit the baseplate's size to any value above 100.

-Ambient:
You can change the ambient's color to any valid hexadecimal color.
EX.:
ffffff - white (day)
000000 - black (darkness)

•Test mode:
You can turn on test mode by pressing F5, and Esc to return to edit mode.
Controls:
WASD for walking, space for jumping, scroll or O/I for zoom, right click to turn camera.
When pressing Esc your camera will be right were your character was, so you might not want to throw yourself out world.

•Saving/Loading
Ctrl+S - save over/a new .brk file
Ctrl+L - load a existing .brk file saved on your computer

•Editing a part:
Shift+right click to edit a part

-Brick/Cylinder/Cone/Sphere:
changes the part's shape.

-Name:
no idea, probably something related to scripting

-Delete:
deletes the part

You can edit workshop files using something like Notepad, or any text editing program. In there you can see the position of a brick, shape of a brick, transparency of a brick, etc. etc., and you can of course edit these things from there as well (this is currently the only way to get a transparent block).

Naming a block, as far as I'm aware, does nothing except allow you to see which block is which inside the text editing program.
